Texas Boys Distance Runners Of All-Time

Boys All-Time Distance Runners 41 - 50

50. Wesley Keating  2001 (PSJA North) - Keating is regarded as one of the best distance runners to ever come out of South Texas. He set many stadium and meet records in the distance events. His 2001 UIL 5A state championship in the 3200m in a 9:10.97 is one of the accomplishments he can hang his hat on.

49. Anthony Monte 2017 -2020 (Austin Vandegrift) - Over the last two seasons, Monte has shown his range and his ability to perform in big races. Monte's PRs are 1:59.17, 4:15.44, 9:03.61, and 14:39 in cross country. Having his senior season cut short due to COVID-19, that definitely impacted his status on this list, but he did enough to join the ranks of the best. Along with his impressive times, Monte qualified for NXN both as a junior and a senior and he placed very high in both races. If Monte had the chance to compete this track season, he would have been able to climb much further up this list. He already showed flashes of the good things that were to come; he ran 9:09 in the 2 mile indoors and had already dropped a 9:03 in the 3200m early this outdoor season. A sub 9:00 in the 3200m and a 4:10 or better was in his future cards and could have placed him in the top 15 or better.

48. Alex Mendoza 1985 - 1988 (Laredo United) - Mendoza has one of the highest places of a Texan at a national level meet. His sixth place finish at the 1987 Kinney Cross Country Championships. With his 15:12, he finished just 16 seconds behind one of the top high school runners in American history (Bob Kennedy). Mendoza was second in the 1986 UIL 5A cross country state championship and then won the 1987 UIL 5A state cross country championship in 15:15.20. That year, he went on to place fifth in the 3200m at the state track meet in 9:21.90.

47. Alan Culpepper - 1987 - 1990 (El Paso Coronado) - Now a days, Alan Culpepper is known for his Cruz Culpepper from Colorado, son who is an amazing talent and one of the top national distance runners. However, in his own days, Culpepper was a Texas stud. He won the 1989 UIL 5A state championship in the 1600m and 3200m. Then he doubled back in the 1600m in 1990 with a 4:12.30 for that win. He added the 1989 and 1990 state cross country championships as well on is way to a Foot Locker Nationals fourth place finish.

46. Logan Sherman  - 2001 - 2004 (Richardson Pearce) - Sherman was never able to capture a cross country championship in his prep career. He qualified for state all four years in high school and was sixth and seventh in his sophomore and junior seasons. However, his senior year, his state meet race was not his best however, hat didn't stop him from running a 15:20 5K PR. It also didn't stop him from having a solid track career. As a junior in 2003, Sherman won the 3200m state title in 9:20.40, but doubled back senior year to go 4:19.55 in the 1600m and and 9:08.14 in the 3200m for his second and third state championships.

45. Joe Sansone - 2010 - 2013 (Southlake Carroll) - Sansone was a key member in some of the best  Carroll Dragon cross country teams. He was an member of three state championship and NXN qualifying teams. Sansone ran PRs of 2:00, 4:12, 9:00, and 15:04 in the 5K in cross country. He finished eighth and fourth in his junior and senior years at state as well as 22nd at NXN senior year. On the track, he was second in the 3200m at the 2013 UIL 5A state meet.

44. Justin Brinkley - 2009 - 2012 - (Kingwood) - The tall Kingwood star was one of those athletes who could run anything. He had PRs of 1:52.82, 4:09.36, 9:19.97, and 15:02.13 in the cross country 5K.  Although, he had superb cross country times, he never really hit it big at the state meet. However, that wasn't the case on the track. He was second in the 1600m as a sophomore and then third as a junior and then fourth as senior.

43.Cale Wallace - 2009 - 2012 - (Cypress Ranch) - Senior year, Wallace had an awesome cross country season. He dropped a 15:00.50 5K PR and finished fourth in the UIL 5A state cross country meet. After qualifying for NXN, he wont on to finish 27th. He also excelled on the track. He was another elite runner with range. He had PRs of 50.90, 1:51.72, 4:09.30, 9:29.76, and 15:00.50 in the cross country 5K. As a junior, he was second at the state meet and then was sixth in the 800m as a senior.

41. Dennis Hodapp - 2007 - 2010 - (Austin St. Michaels) - The TAPPS super star won his fair share of state titles. Another talented and rangy runner, Hodapp dropped excellent times such as 1:57.52, 4:11.76, 9:02.88, 15:27 5K in cross country. His best times and races were against the public school runners as evidence, thats when he gained all of his PRs.
