Christian Gonzales was ready for the 2020 track and field season. However, it didn't go down as many expected it to. COVID drastically changed what we were all expecting.
The Corpus Christi Carroll rising senior had been working hard, knowing his junior season was the one to really get the attention of college recruiters and set himself up for a magical senior year.
Despite the challenges and the unexpected changes, Gonzales continued to work hard and get into the best fitness of his life; that led to running faster than he has ever ran before. On two separate occasions, he took trips to his local track facility and belted two solid performances in the middle distances (800m/1600m).
Check out the videos and watch Gonzales lower his previous personal best times of 1:57.44 and 4:30.19 to 1:53 and 4:19. The impressive thing is that he did it all alone. No pacers, tempo assistance, and no cheering crowd.
Now, Gonzales will get ready for the 2020 cross country season as he tries to improve on his 16:11.83 PR in the 5K.
