5A Girls Relays Recap: Marshall, Lancaster, Manvel Get Wins

5A Girls 4x100 Relay

The two fastest times coming into today's meet were from Manvel and Fort Bend Marshall.

There was a smooth start to this race and through the first exchange. In lane 2, Fort Bend Marshall led at the 2nd handoff and around the turn after the 3rd exchange.

Down the straightaway, it was Fort Bend Marshall and Burleson Centennial neck and neck. Fort Bend Marshall won the gold with a time of 46:34. Burleson Centennial came in second with a time of 46:65, and College Station finished in 3rd place with a time of 46:86.

5A Girls 4x200 Relay

The 2019 Gold medal winners and the fastest time coming into today's meet from this year is the team from Lancaster.

It was the team from Manvel and Amarillo in the lead at the first exchange. Lancaster had a bad 1st exchange putting them at an early disadvantage. Manvel and Amarillo continued their lead after the 2nd exchange. On the outside, Frisco Heritage put together a solid performance keeping them in the mix. With a strong 3rd leg, Lancaster made their move digging themselves out of the early hole they had found themselves in with the shaky exchanges.

On the final exchange, Manvel had a bad exchange which took them out of their rhythm. Heritage had a slight lead coming off the turn, but the anchor leg of Lancaster turned on the jets and rallied for the gold with a time of 1:37.99. Frisco Heritage came away with the silver with a 1:38.26 and McKinney North grabbed the bronze with a time of 1:39.81 after Manvel was disqualified.

5A girls 4x400 Relay

Fort Bend Hightower had the fastest time this year.

The girls went out fast with Fort Bend Hightower in the lead and Lancaster in second place through the first exchange, Manvel was running in third. On the back straightaway Manvel took the lead, with Fort Bend Hightower and Lancaster holding on to second and third place at the second exchange. 

Manvel maintained their lead and had the first exchange at the bell lap. Fort Bend Hightower was running in second with Lancaster a close third place. With 200 meters left, Manvel held onto their lead while Fort Bend Hightower tried hard to close the gap but not successfully.

Manvel captured the gold medal with a time of 3:46.91, Fort Bend Hightower won the silver medal with a time of 3:49.07, and Lancaster persevered for the bronze medal with a time of 3:50.40.
