Brandon Passmann Shows Speed To Win 1A Boys 1,600m

After winning the mile a year ago, Isaiah Billingsley (Tilden McMullen) was determined to repeat in 2022. The senior had already won the 800 with ease and nearly medaled in the 400.

The pace got out to a quick start. Brandon Passmann (Guthrie) led after one lap with a split of 1:04.53 with Billingsley right behind. The duo stretched their lead by over 50 meters from the rest of the pack. They crossed the halfway point with a time of 2:11.27

With 400 meters to go, Billingsley and Passmann were neck and neck. Billingsley ran on the outside and tried to make a move but was unable to pass. Passmann ran the final lap in a 59.19 second split to win the mile with a time of 4:16.05. Billingsley secured the second spot with a time of 4:18.45.

With an impressive finish,  Tayte Cormier (Mertzon Irion County) escaped with the bronze medal in a time of 4:43.47. Cormier passed multiple runners in the final 50 meters to finish on the podium.
