Brandon Passmann Won Back-To-Back UIL 1A 3200 Titles

Brandon Passmann a Senior from Guthrie was the defending gold medalist and record holder with a time of 9:16.59 heading into the 2022 state meet.

Passmann took out at a steady pace and pulled ahead of the pack at the first lap split with a time of 1:15.05. He continued to stretch his lead while the rest of the field remained staggered out behind him. Tayte Cormier a Junior from Mertzon Irion County was in second place leading the chase pack and Adrian Rosales a Freshman from Booker was in third.

Passmann's lead grew with 5 laps to go followed by Cormier and Lance Davis a Senior from Cumby Miller Grove who didn't want to let him out of their sight.

With 4 laps to go, Passmann continued to increase his lead and appeared to be in the zone on cruise control. Davis pulled into second and Cormier fell to third with the rest of the field still close behind them.

Passmann continued his dominance with Davis hanging on to second and Rosales moving back into third. Movement started to occur with two laps remaining. Griff Reel a freshman from Guthrie moved into second place and Rosales moved back into third, but on the back stretch Rosales took back over 2nd place.

At the bell, Passmann had a comfortable lead with Ryker Haivala a Freshman from Cumby Miller Grove pulled into second with Rosales fell to third. 

Last year's gold medalist Passmann came down the back stretch for the win uncontested with a time of 9:57.46. It was a dog fight for second, but Rosales kicked it into high gear with a time of 10:13.25 for the silver with Haivala claimed the bronze medal with a time of 10:14.00.

Passman, the Alabama commit made it a distance sweep as he later added the 1,600m win to go with his cross country state title.
