1-3A
Girls
Jaycee Lyons Holliday - The 1600m and 3200m runner is a experienced as they come.
Defending UIL 3A 4x400 state champions Shallowater is trying to get back to Austin to defend their state title.
Mia Goicochea (Shallowater) defending Discus state champion - She'll have to watch out for junior Taylor Wiseman (Childress) who threw 138-8 at the UIL 3A Area 1-2 Meet. That would have been good enough to finish second at the state meet behind Goicochea.
Kyle Tullous (Jacksboro) enters the regional meet with a 18-5.75 at UIL 3A - District 7-8 Area Meet, which would have placed her second at state.
Boys
Jeremiah Durham (Wichita Falls City View) was runner-up last year in the 100m. He ran 10.71 at the UIL 3A - District 7-8 Area Meet .
Chase Lehr (Breckenridge) and Lucas Riso (Crane) went 1-2 at the state meet last year and they both enter this year's regional meet with faster times than they ran at state. Lehr ran 1:53.95 at the UIL 3A - District 7-8 Area Meet and Rizo ran 1:54.07 at the UIL 3A Area 3/4 Championships. The 800m final will be a can't miss race.
Another can't miss race will be the 1600m. Reigning and defending state champion Angel Torres (Tornillo) has the fastest area time of 4:31.48. He'll have to fend off the Strohman young guns from Holliday. Noah Strohman and Ryder Strohman are having excellent freshman seasons. Noah has SBs of 4:12 and 9:17 this year and Ryder checks in with 4:28 and 9:53, which figure to have him competitive in both events. In the 3200m, they'll be facing off against another Tornillo distance runner in junior Daniel Romero. Romero has the top area time of 9:37.
In the boys relays, last year's 4x100 state runners-up Brock will have to fend off Bushland and Iowa Park. Bushland has a 42.65 from their area meet, which is what Brock ran in the area rounds and Iowa Park isn't too far behind them in 42.97. In the 4x400 relay, Region 1 will be highly competitive. It has who Breckenridge comes in with a 3:22.79 from area; that is the exact same time that Palacios won the state meet last year. Crane has a 3:23.29 mark from area, and that would have put them on the podium last season.
Mason Hill is the top returner from last at the 3A state meet shot put where he finished third overall. He threw 58-11 to win the area meet and that is further than last year's 54-10.25 in Austin that earned him the bronze medal.
Brock junior Cale Bramblett has a good chance of winning the state title. After not making it to Austin last year, his vaulting is on point this season. He jumped 16-0 at the UIL 3A - District 7-8 Area Meet, which would have earned him the silver medal last season.
