Klein Forest And Shadow Creek Ran Away With 6A Girls Relays

Girls 4x100 Relay

There was a light  drizzle falling from the sky, but the 4x100 relay in Texas gets things going line none other.

Klein Forest won the bronze medal last year and entered with the fastest seed time from the regionals with their 45.71. The field was loaded with five teams coming in under 45.60 from the previous round.

Coming off of the first exchange, it was Dickinson and Klein forest in the lead, but Duncanville's second leg put them in the mix with the field. After the final exchange, it was Klein Forest out in front with the lead and the whole field chasing them.

Klein Forest secured the win with four teams close at the line vying for the silver medal. Duncanville would get it just ahead of Lewisville and Dickinson.

Girls 4x200 Relay

In the girls 4x200 relay, Klein Forest had the chance to make it two for two. However, they'd have to battle Region 3-6A champion Dickinson who's seed time was 1:37.22 and Duncanville who won Region 2-6A with a time of 1:37.23. Klein Forest at 1:37.48 at regionals wasn't far behind in seed times and Arlington Martin made it four teams under 1:38 as they came in with a 1:37.92

Dickinson got out to a great start and had the the first exchange, but it was quickly Arlington Martin, Duncanville, and Klein Forest making major moves on second carry.

Duncanville passed the baton first on the third and final exchange with Klein Forest's stick not far behind.  Those two would battle on the turn with Klein Forest taking the lead on the straightaway as the rest of field was pushing hard.

In the end, the top two teams would not be caught but Lewisville gotin for the third place finish on the outside with a great anchor leg.

Girls 4x400 Relay

The Shadow Creek Sharks had the fastest seed of 3:44.63, were the defending state champions, and came in after winning the Texas Relays in this event. However, Humble Summer Creek was right on their heels at the Region 3-6A Championships in 3:44.98.

DeSoto and Duncanville were both looking good in the early goings of the first leg. Summer Creek's first leg had a crazy second part of her leg and handed off first with a 15 meter lead at the break.

Shadow Creek, Denton Guyer, and Duncanville were the chasing teams, but Summer Creek was looking extremely strong after the second handoff.

Pearland had moved into third place and Shadow Creek put the clamps on Summer Creek coming off the turn with the final exchange left to go.  After the last handoff, it was Shadow Creek, Pearland and Summer Creek in that order.

Summer Creek and Duncanville went by Pearland on the backstretch of the final carry and then Duncanville set their eyes on Shadow Creek was too strong and pulled away.

Summer Creek got Duncanville back on the final straight to get second place and DeSoto finished feverishly for a third place finish.

Timewise, Shadow Creek got the repeat state championship with an outstanding time of 3:40.75, Summer Creek ran 3:44.10 and DeSoto finished with a 3:45.13.
