Emily Smith of Colleyville Covenant Christian burst onto the scene as a freshman, when at the TAPPS State Track & Field Championships, the diminutive distance runner swept the 4A 800, 1600, and 3200. While Track & Field seasons haven't been kind to Emily since (nagging injuries have hampered repeat sweeps), she's excelled in Cross Country.
If she wins the 4A individual title May 30th at Waco's Cottonwood Park, she'll secure her fourth-consecutive title, and she's also gunning for the Cottonwood Park record - 11:19 in 2017 by Argyle Liberty Christian's Elizabeth Reneau. (Record unverified by TAPPS.)
