Region 1-6A Boys

Caden Leonard reigned supreme in Lubbock and executed a similar race to the one he ran at Nike South. The Carroll sophomore led the second half of the race along with Denton Braswell junior Aleksandr Acuna.

Aidan Danny Torres assumed the lead Trooper role for Eastwood this season and he's been doing a great job. His runner-up finish might be a surprise to many thanks to his fabulous last 1K of the race.  Torres has been rumbling things all season long with impressive runs out in California and in Arizona. Now, he looks like a threat to the 6A title.

Acuna has run some fast times this season and the course variations and distances have had something to do with the non linear season path. However, one directional related thing he knows is the top. Acuna is in the front of every race and this one just got away from him, but don't expect that to affect his aggressive running style.

The McKinney Boyd Boys have exhibited all season long their ability to run at the highest level. Caleb Millard and Joaquin De La Cruz are for real if you haven't noticed and their top five finishes in Region 1-6A puts them in a good spot for all-state possibilities.

I don't know about you, but the Region 1-6A race is one full of anxiety. It's high stung, frightening, and neurological. With that being said, it's also one of the best experiences you can have. That's just the way it makes me feel as a spectator and a predictor.

I can't fathom the experience as a coach or participant, but from watching the competition and the outcome, It'd be one as former runner that would be an honor to take part of.

With all of the great teams including the five top-10 ranked teams heading into the race and many with hopes of advancing, it lived up to the hype.

Carroll came out on top as expected, but to be honest I saw some vulnerabilities I didn't expect. In the end, only 50 points scored, maybe nitpicking is too critical.

McKinney Boyd was as consistent and steady as they've been all season long and now that this meet is over, we can officially consider them a podium threat. Until this latest CCCAT poll, this team has been undervalued and ranked lower than I expected them to be. Lookout for a stampede at the state meet from the Boyd Broncos.

In my opinion, El Paso has been probably the second best running community in the state of Texas recently. It has been on the rise, and even in down years, it still ever-so-present.

El Paso Franklin and Eastwood proved they are both very dangerous 6A teams. Franklin is making their second consecutive trip to Round rock after a third place finish and Eastwood is going back after their one year hiatus last season.

Region 2-6A Boys

Benjamin Montgomery continued his impressive season by tacking on the Region 3-6A title. He discarded the pack in the last mile with Manuel Vela and Toby Eaton keeping in contact.

Vela established himself as one to watch heading into state with Eaton adding another great run to his resume.

For those who haven't seen Jack Sterrett run, he should have opened the eyes of many. Caden Biltz followed a good district performance with an impressive region finish.

In the last CCCAT poll of the season, Bridgeland saw themselves on the outside looking in. They think they're a top team and went on to prove to others as much. They notched a major win over Wylie and The Woodlands.

Wylie looked very strong early in the race and kept pace with every team except for Bridgeland. In fact, they were in position to win until the five spot. College Park put together a strong race as well and showed they were possibly overlooked as well.

Grabbing the final qualifying spot was The Woodlands. Not accustomed to placing fourth, they still advanced to get to the starting line in Round Rock, which was the objective. Some are looking at the fourth place as sign, but I'd warn you not to do that.

The signs I see are them getting on a bus heading to Round Rock and still running a 0.33 second split on an "off day" if you want to call it that.

Region 3-6A Boys

Katy Seven Lakes senior Matthew Montgomery has come up big in some big races this year. None of them were as big as the Region 3-6A Championships, but that too is on his resume. He ran 15:11 to distance himself from Sam Golla for the win.

Parker Wood and Benjamin Pearce have also come up huge this year and led the way for their teams. Wood ran 15:23 for third place and Pearce came in fourth with a 15:32. Jackson Jamison has a couple of wins under his belt this year and can now add a top five run at regionals to it.

Tompkins has been the best team in Houston all season long and the No. 5 ranked team in the state had an easy time going for the win. Their four, five, and six runners were tight through the finish line and were ready for a challenge and tie if one had occurred.

Over 50 points back was district rival Katy in second place. They had a 16:15 team average and a 0.58 second split, which is perhaps one of their most impressive team runs of the season. When they get a solid race out of the top position they put themselves in the mix.

In most regions, having a fifth runner score 50 points ins't conducive to advancing to the state meet. However, in Region 3-6A, there were two teams who had two scorers contribute over 50 points each and they still moved on.

Golla will be joined by his teammates in Round Rock as the Clear Lake Falcons got up for the third spot and Deer Park rounded things out with their fourth place finish.

Region 4-6A Boys

Hudson Haley has been one of the most impressive runners in all of Texas. He won the Region 4-6A title this week and now it all seems like it was a build up to what lies ahead. This kid was born to race and after the first mile is complete, it seems that's when the race begins for him.

Hayden Scott turned in another good run on this course with his runner-up finish in 15:29. He wasn't too far off from Haley and this should give him good thoughts heading into the state meet.

Just a couple of second were the difference in runner-up and third, fourth, and fifth place finishes for James Butler, Gavin Chapa, and Alexis Rodriguez. Butler crossed the line just three seconds behind Scott in 15:32 with Chapa and Rodriguez following both close behind in 15:35.

Vandegrift might be the eventual state champion and only eight days separate that opportunity. They earned it with another Region 4-6A title with a dominating 56 point win. They were nearly 80 points ahead of runner-up Round Rock who was significantly ahead of everyone else.

San Antonio Reagan was able to capture third with Austin Bowie in fourth. Reagan broke up the ATX domination thanks to the running of their low stick runner, Chapa. Bowie got good running up front from their lead pack.
