That's about to change.
As junior Sophia Grinstead continues to improve on her shot put (45-02, currently second in the state), college coaches will use their GPS to find the small town just north of San Antonio.
Sophia's goals are simple: 1) Claim the all-time TAPPS 2A shot and discus marks, and then 2) claim the all-time TAPPS shot and discus marks. For her to accomplish this goal, she'll need to listen to AC/DC's Thunderstruck a lot before her senior season ends, as this is the song, according to her coach, where when it plays prior to her event, she'll PR.
The all-time TAPPS 2A shot put mark is 47-00.00 held by Parker Clay of Shiner St. Paul (and Texas A&M), and the all-time TAPPS 2A discus mark is 143-04 held by Ashley Field of Faith Academy of Marble Falls.
Beyond these marks, the all-time TAPPS shot put mark is 48-03.50 by Faith Mitchell of St. Agnes, and the all-time TAPPS discus mark is 150-02 by Christina Mueller of San Antonio Antonian.
