For Mercy Freeman, 13 Is A Lucky Number

First event, first attempt: Triple Jump - 2023 TAPPS State Meet.

Mercy Freeman rolls her ankle and spends the entire meet in a boot, awaiting the doctor's plan for summer rehab. 

Frustration covered her face as she walked around Midway ISD's Panther Stadium in a boot and on crutches. 

It would be a year before she could return to Track & Field and test the waters against state competition. 

As a freshman, Freeman earned 3 gold medals.

As a sophomore at Tomball Rosehill Christian, she etched her name onto the map with 5 golds as she helped her team to the TAPPS 3A title. 

As a senior, she earned 5 more gold medals while totaling 45 points for the TAPPS 3A Girls Champions. 

Overall, she possesses 13 TAPPS State TF Championship gold medals, one shy of the all-time Texas record for females, held by Ychlindria Spears of UIL's Luling High School.
