Recap: Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational

The Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational was FAST! What's new?

Since its inception, the results of this meet has been eye-popping producing national leading performances.

The first reason for this is because it is one of the first big races around the country and thanks to the combination of the other reasons, the meet produces fast times.

The girls race produced a 17:10 run and the boy's winning time was whopping 14:49.

On the girl's side, it was Coppell sophomore Maya Easterwood running away to the win. As a freshman last year, Easterwood ran a 18:08 personal best to finish 18th at the 2023 UIL 6A state meet.

This weekend's race was her first sub 18-minute run and is an impressive start especially for two-sport athlete who competes in basketball in the spring before grabbing a couple of races on the track.

Behind Easterwood were several of Texas top up-and-coming distance runners.

Ella Magallan (Burleson Centennial) ran a 17:59 for second place. This was a new PR for Magallan as well, lowering her new best from 18:07, which she ran at this meet last season.

Lincoln Husband (Midlothian) finished in third place with a 18:05 PR. The junior ran her 18:09 previous best time at last year' Waxahachie meet.

On the boy's side, Pranav Vegiraju made it a Coppell sweep of the elite races when he won in 14:59. He lowered his personal best from 15:58, which he ran at last year's Waxahachie race.

Vegiraju won ahead of freshman Graham Hummel (Home School Athletic Association) who ran 15:10.

The Coppell squad produced  a 15:47 team average and a 1:12 split from 1-5 runners.

The host team from Waxahachie also ran impressively. They ran a 15:57 average with only a 51-second split thanks to the front running from senior Graham Scott who ran 15:28 and junior Brock Morales with his 15:43.
