As a freshman, Tyler Grace Community's Emma Goetz won not only the overall 5A TAPPS Cross Country State Championships, but she also won the 1600 / 3200 at the TAPPS Track & Field State Championships.
A runner since third grade, Goetz concentrated on strength training through weights this summer to help her mechanics, and all she did was reach her season's goal of breaking 18 minutes in the 5K - before Labor Day! She ran 17:55 and now the goal has now been re-envisioned to 17:30.00.
The Tyler Grace Community girls' team finished third on the podium last October, but with 5A state champion St. Dominic Savio having moved up to 6A and the addition of four new runners, including younger sister Casey, this could be the year Tyler Grace stands atop the podium at Cottonwood Gold Course, October 28th.
