2025 UIL 6A Girls 1,600m
The 2025 UIL Girls 6A 1600 meters brought together a loaded field of talented and experienced runners, setting the stage for a thrilling race at the state meet. Right from the gun, the pace was aggressive, with Lily Fawcett of Bridgeland taking the lead through the first lap in a swift 66.01, closely followed by Macy Wingard of Denton Braswell, Alexandra Fox of Flower Mound, and Emma Wade of Vista Ridge. The top four quickly separated themselves from the rest of the pack, showing both their experience and determination as they jockeyed for position.
As the race progressed, Texas A&M commit Alexandra Fox began to make her move. After staying patient through the early laps, Fox surged to the front just after the 1200-meter mark, clocking 3:33.95 and setting herself up perfectly for the final lap. Wingard, who had already finished second in the 3200 meters earlier in the meet, dug in to hold onto second place, while Oklahoma State commit Emma Wade moved into third, refusing to let the leaders get too far ahead.
In the homestretch, Fox showed her class, extending her lead and storming home in an impressive 4:45.99 to claim the state title. Wingard held strong for second, finishing in 4:49.58, and Wade completed the podium with a 4:52.26, marking another standout performance in her high school career that has included multiple state meet appearances in both cross country and track. The race highlighted the depth and talent of this 6A field, with tough racing and personal bests across the board.
Fox Fox returns the UIL 6A girls 1,600m podium after missing out the past two seasons. In her freshman year, Fox placed third at the 2022 1,600m state finals.
