UIL 1A Girls Regional Championship Reviews

Start of the 2025 Region 4-1A Girls Championships

2025 UIL State Championships

October 31 - Nov. 1, 2025

The UIL 1A Girls Regional Championships unfolded across the state this past week, with all four meets held at three different locations, each bringing its own unique set of challenges and conditions. While every athlete raced the same 3,200-meter distance on the same days, geography played a major role in shaping how each race unfolded. From the rolling hills of West Texas and in Corpus Christi to the flatter, fast course in Arlington, the variety in terrain, weather, and course layout made direct comparisons difficult.

Some runners benefited from crisp, cool conditions in the 50s and 60s, while others endured 90-degree heat and high humidity, or battled strong winds. Despite these disparities, the regional meets delivered standout performances across the board. In this recap, we break down the action from each site, not to rank or compare, but to highlight the top teams and individuals from across the state, while keeping in mind the unique differences in each race day experience.

Region 2-1A Girls XC Championship Recap - Arlington

The team competition at the Region 2-1A Girls Cross Country Championship in Arlington brought a strong showing from perennial contenders and emerging programs, all battling for the top four qualifying spots to the UIL State Meet.

Clyde Eula captured the regional championship with an outstanding team score of 64 points and an average team time of 13:28.92. Led by Camryn Gray (4th overall) and Raelee Rister (5th overall), the Lady Pirates demonstrated exceptional consistency through their scoring five, all of whom finished in the top 25. Their tight spread and speed made them the clear top team in the region.

Garden City placed second with 94 points and an average time of 13:45.44. Powered by senior leaders Claire Eggemeyer, Sadie Fuchs, and Emy Schwartz, Garden City showed strong pack running that kept them ahead of the field. The team had all five scoring runners finish inside the top 30, which gave them a comfortable margin for the runner-up spot.

Jayton, behind individual champion Jace Chisum, finished third with 118 points and an average time of 13:46.12. Chisum's first-place finish gave Jayton an early boost, but it was the effort of their 3rd through 5th runners - all finishing in the top 40 - that secured their state qualification.

Roby rounded out the top four with 147 points and an average team time of 14:08.75. Led by Saylor Smith (6th overall) and Berklee Lummus (10th), Roby overcame a more spread-out back half to edge out other competitors for the final state meet berth.

Each of these teams showed grit and strategic pacing on the Arlington course, and they'll now prepare to face the state's best in Round Rock.

Region 4-1A Girls XC Championship Recap - Corpus Christi

The UIL Region 4-1A Girls Cross Country Championship brought top talent from across the region to Corpus Christi, showcasing competitive spirit and team depth. With the top four teams earning qualification to the UIL State Meet, every point mattered on the sandy trails of Dugan Track Complex.

Tilden McMullen County dominated the field, securing the regional championship with a near-perfect score of 25 points. Their top five runners all placed in the top 10, led by finishers in 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 10th, resulting in a combined time of 1:06:27.20, a commanding performance that made them the clear frontrunners.

Aquilla claimed the runner-up position with 111 points, a strong team showing anchored by top finishes in 8th, 16th, and 17th. Their consistency across the pack helped them edge out the rest of the field and secure a trip to the state meet.

Moulton placed third with 155 points, thanks to a balanced effort that saw five runners finishing between 13th and 38th place. Their cumulative time of 1:17:27.05 proved fast enough to comfortably earn a qualifying spot.

Jonesboro earned the fourth and final team qualifying spot with 185 points, just narrowly holding off Comstock, who scored 188. The three-point margin came down to key late-race placements, with Jonesboro's runners taking 4th, 6th, 42nd, 64th, and 69th. The effort was just enough to survive the final challenge and punch their ticket to the state championships.

This razor-thin margin highlights how every individual finish counted, especially in tightly packed team standings. Jonesboro's slight edge in having two runners in the top six may have been the decisive factor.
