Monday 10/12 - HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY!!!! Because of this grand holiday we got an extra hour of sleep this morning, with practice being moved to 7:45. Practice this morning was run by the captains
because neither of our coaches could be there. We started with a 2 mile warmup to some hills on our local city trail, then did dynamic drills before we started the workout. Our workout was 4 x 3min at tempo pace, 4 x 90seconds a little bit faster then tempo pace, and 4 x 45seconds at a sprint. After that we ran about a half mile "finisher" as fast as we could, then cooled down 1.5 miles back to the school for stretches. Then we were blessed with going home and sleeping instead of going to school today! This afternoon my friends and I thought it was a good idea to go to the state fair on the busiest day, we also thought it was a good idea to take the train thereā¦ worst.idea.ever. It was the most crowded train ride I have ever been on, and @paytobrown was being attacked by an old lady hanging on to her for dear life (she wasn't very happy). But a positive that came out of the fair was of course the famous state fair corn dogs and big Tex!
Total miles: 11
Tuesday 10/13 - This morning we had an easy 5 mile recovery run around Parker Square, then 6 x 150 meter strides when we got back to the track. After that we did a lot of dynamic drills, and static stretching before (sadly) going to school. We have a tradition in girls cross country called 'secret pal'
and basically you draw a card with a name on it out of a hat and you give gifts to that person the whole week leading up to the district cross country meet. On the card it has the persons favorite foods, colors, restaurants, basically anything they like and you buy little gifts throughout the week and then give them a big gift the day of district. Today I gave my secret pal a pair of Halloween socks and her favorite cookies. Also, today we had our senior panoramic photo, and got to skip second period so that was awesome! This photo is of the Jandal Squad standing in our '16 graduation formation.
Total miles: 5.5
Wednesday 10/14 - This morning, practice was 15min earlier because our sophomores had to take the PSAT at 8:15. Our workout was an 8 mile surge EPR. We warmed up with two laps and dynamic drills. The first 2 miles were "off" which was about 7:00 pace, the second 2 miles were "on" which was 6:30 pace, the third 2 miles were "off" at 6:50 pace and the last 2 miles were "on" at 6:10 pace. Everyone had a really good day, and our varsity girls all stayed together for the whole run! When we finished we ran a 2 lap cool down, and did static stretches. Today my secret pal got the pumpkin spice version of her favorite cookies, more socks, and a cute little cat that holds a picture. After school the team had PM practice, but I couldn't go because I had a chiropractor appointment (shoutout to Dr. Casper, and my mom who is pictured!). The team did the usual weight lifting, core, and strides, but did not run because everyone got their miles this morning, and it was extremely hot this afternoon!
Total miles: 9
Thursday 10/14 - Today we had an easy, low mileage recovery run. Varsity girls ran 5 miles through a park called LL Woods, and when we got back to the track we had 6 x 150 meter strides across the football field. Then we did dynamic drills and stretched really well before going inside. Today I gave my secret pal a little baby cactus, m&ms, and oreos!
Total miles: 5.5
Friday 10/15 - This morning I woke up extra early to go to Tom Thumb before practice to buy a cactus to give to my secret pal today along with a pumpkin! Practice was at 7:45 again and workout was a 4 mile tempo. We warmed up with 1 mile, dynamic drills, and 5 minutes of stretching. For the first 2 miles of our tempo our varsity girls ran 6:20 pace, then we picked up the pace to finish the last 2 miles. After we finished we ran 2 laps for cool down and static stretched.
Total miles: 5.5
Saturday 10/16 - Today we had practice at 8:00, which was very nice. Workout was another short recovery run with a lot of dynamic drills afterwards in preparation for the district meet. At the end of practice, Quinn and I practiced our head stands and I wish I had a picture of it, but I forgot to get one (I'll get one on Monday!).
Total miles: 5
Sunday 10/17 - This morning we had to schedule practice on our own, because due to UIL rules we aren't allowed to have team scheduled practice on Sundays. Varsity girls met at Unity Park at 7:30 for our pre-meet workout. We warmed up with 2 laps, then ran 4 x 400 meters at 83 seconds. We cooled down with 2 laps then went to seven mile cafe to eat breakfast for Quinns Birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUINNY!!!!!
