Last Thursday I raced at Goldsmith Relays. I was very excited for this race because it was the first time that we were going to get the chance to race some district competition. When we got to the meet there was 25mph winds so my plan for the 3200 was a little different than normal. My plan was to just go out with the lead pack and then really focus on the second mile. The race went out really slow so each lap after the mile I really focused on trying to get faster than the one before. I led the race all the way up until the last 200 and ended up finishing 2nd with a time of 10:49. I was kind of mad that I lost the race but it definitely gave me a lot of motivation for the mile. After the 3200 I ate some rice and beans and then took a really good nap so when it came time for the 1600 I felt great. Since the mile was super late at night the wind had died down and there was perfect running conditions. Going into the race I knew exactly what splits I wanted to hit and I was fully committed to the plan my coach & I had discussed. I got out in front from the very beginning and went through the first 400 at exactly what I wanted to be. Again, I led the whole race up until the last straight away and ended up placing 2nd. Even though I didn't win the race I still ran a big PR and was very happy with the outcome. Running 4:55 is a big accomplishment for me and definitely gives me more confidence for the races to come. Overall I was very happy with how the day went. There are many more things I want to accomplish this season & I am so excited to see what the rest of the season has in store!!
