Meet Of Champions: Five Things To Watch!

200m

Girls

Jania Martin taking the win in the 5a girls 200m
WhenRaces Start at 5:30 PM CT
Why: This is going to be fast--several girls have run sub-24 for 200m. The fastest runner in the field is class 5A 200m state champion, Jania Martin, who torched the field with a wind-legal 23.60. Also under 24 seconds in the field is Taylor's Virginia Kerley. She enters with an all-conditions PR of 23.85. There are also several girls close to the sub 24-second-barrier, including DeSoto's Chloe CavazosShe was on the U.S. No. 7 all-time DeSoto 4x200m team, so you can count on this junior to bring the speed.

Boys

Trevin Chambers after racing at TSU earlier this year
WhenRaces Start at 5:30 PM CT
Why: Watch out--Trevin Chambers is back at it in the 200m. The DeSoto senior had a rough preliminary race in Region 1 when he stepped over his lane line several times, which ultimately got him disqualified. He owns one of the best times in the state, and would have been a serious competitor for the state title in the class 6A 200m. He's coming back fired up and ready to run fast this weekend for a shot at redemption in his marquee event. Chambers is also the only one entered who's run under 21 seconds. Several guys will look to change that this weekend, including Lawrence Coleman, whose PR is 21.05. Coleman was the third-place finisher in class 5A with that time aginst the top two in the state. Khalil Lacy and DeMarkus Acy will be two other names to watch with their Texas No. 23 and 33 marks.
