Summer Traning Blog Week 4: Abby Riordan

Monday: The one liner for the day is: "The starting point of all achievement is desire." I think this is important because you can run all you want but if you aren't training without  desire to reach your goals, then you won't have any motivation. Today was a hard run and I didn't feel that good, but I made it through the run. I went out at a decent pace, but I wasn't able to hold the same pace for the rest of the workout. Shoutout to my teammate Aaliya today because she changed speeds when I wasn't able to which is an important thing to have on a team.

Tuesday: Today is a recovery day so I had 5 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. I went a consistent pace and tried to keep it for the whole run. The one liner for today is: "Sacrifices over excuses," which is something you have to do in distance running if you want to reach your full potential. Today after my morning run we went and worked the freshman orientation, encouraging freshmen to join cross country, and we sold spirit wear. Once we were done with that, I went to get new spikes and training shoes for the upcoming season.

Wednesday: This was another hard run and today and I struggled to get through the workout because I wasn't running well. I ended it early but I ended up doing the rest later that day when my mind was a little bit clearer. Today was not the best day but, I know it will get better as I continue to train. The one liner for the day is: "We become creatures of habit." This really applied to today because things may be hard in the beginning, but if you do them over and over, they will be easier every time you do it.

Thursday: Today is another recovery day and I also split this run with 4 in the morning and 2 later on in the day. We ran a good recovery pace and when we were done with the run, we did a core/strength workout and took an ice bath to make our legs feel better from the long week.

Friday: I had a timed mile today but I had to run it alone. The rest of my team did a timed two mile at night, but I was out of town so I couldn't make it. Congrats to Aaliya, Kaitlyn, and Hannah for their top 3 finishes and for the boys it was Adam, Conner, and Myles. My legs were very sore from the strength we did the day before, but running got some of the soreness out. I also warmed up and cooled down with Anna Elkin for the last time before she goes to college, which was sad. I ran okay for the circumstances of running alone and having sore legs. Also, I was excited today to watch the men's Olympic 10K and I was so happy to see Mo win because I got to meet him at nationals two years ago. You can also see that football was having scrimmages, which was nice to see other sports from Hebron working hard as well. (Picture Above)

Saturday: A few of us met up at Hebron to do a recovery run on a course in the neighborhood nearby. I ran with Aailya and we went a good pace the whole run. Today was nice because my legs were starting to feel less dead from the rough week and moving up in mileage.

Sunday: We met up again to go back to the Grapevine trail this morning to do our 9 miles. I ran with Hannah and we went 8:30 pace which is good because we were consistent the whole run and it went by a lot quicker than last week. Also we got to watch the women's Olympic marathon today. Today also marks 90 days until the state meet.
