Fort Bend Marshall vs. Lancaster
Here is another Dallas - Houston centric battle.
This one is different than the Southlake Carroll vs. Woodlands battle in which this one involves more than just one race.
In track and field, there are more events and more athletes involved and it also includes both the girls and boys teams.
The Lancaster girls track program is perhaps one of the most iconic programs in Texas high school track and field history. Coach/AD Beverly Humphrey is a living legend. She has guided the Lady Tigers to 11 state track and field titles.
The Lancaster boys have also have an infamous track record in Texas track and field. They have seven state championship trophies to their credit in their school trophy case as coach Greg Williams helped lead the boys to seven straight titles.
Fort Bend Marshall hasn't been in existence as long as Lancaster has, but that hasn't stopped the girls and boys programs from making their presence felt in the sport.
Coach Benita Smith and Lloyd Banks have racked up some state Championships of their own in the last couple of years. They have helped make Marshall a hotbed for track talent in the Houston area.
Both Lancaster and Marshall have a knack for developing some of the fastest relays in the state and things can get real intense as they compete several times each season at the TSU Relays, Texas Relays, and at the state meet.
Things usually come down to the last event of the state meet and sometimes emotions run high. a couple of recent years, there has had to be some separation of the two teams at the awards stand at the state. When emotions cool down, its usually back to the same old routine. A good old fashion battle on the track.
