Meet Preview: Each Classification For Region 2

Region 2-1A

Girls Team Race Preview:

Region 2-1A has three teams ranked in the latest CCCAT poll in No.1 Roby, No. 6 Imperial Buena Vista, No. 7 Clyde Eula.

Top ranked Roby ran extremely well at the Rattlesnake Run going for a 12:54 team average with their top three finishers running 12:02, 12:14, and 12:48. That average is better than their fourth place finish at last year's state meet and every other team's finish last year for that matter.

Clyde Eula and Buena Vista were also state meet qualifiers finishing eighth and ninth in Round Rock. Garden City comes in with a punchers chance of qualifying, but with the lack of depth, they'll have to be near perfect.

Cross Plains has a good shot and may have the most solid pack from the one to the five and Baird has a shot at getting one of the four qualifying positions, but their spread is spread out.

Favorites: Roby, Buena Vista, Clyde Eula, Garden City

Sleepers: Cross Plains, Baird, Veribest

Girls Individual Race Preview:

Five girls in the region have run under thirteen-minutes this year for 3200m. Roby has three of them with Chasity Benson (12:02), Lilly Benson (12:14), and Hailee Garmer (12:48) with Hailie Cauthen (Clyde Eula) checks in with a 12:21 and Raelyn Goodwin (Baird) with a 12:59.

With all of that, I still consider Gabriela Sanchez (Buena Vista) the favorite. She has the top two mile time this year with her 13:14, but she was last year's sixth place finisher at the state meet.

Favorites: Gabriela Sanchez, Chasity Benson, Lilly Benson, Hailee Cauthen, Hailee Garmer

Sleepers: Raelyn Goodwin, Amri DeLoera, Tatum Heady, Saylor Smith, Kiara Corona

Boys Team Race Preview:

The CCCAT only has Comstock in their top-10 from Region 2, checking in ranked No. 8. I think this regional meet will be WIDE open to just about anyone.

Comstock graduated two of their top seven runners, including their top scorer from the state meet. However, they will look to take the next step to improving their 2022 ninth place state meet finish.

Favorites: Comstock, Roby, Crowell, Westbrook

Sleepers: Garden City, Sierra Blanca, Veribest

Boys Individual Race Preview:

Hayden King (Clyde Eula) is the top returner in the Region from last year's state meet. He was 32nd in 2022, but already has run under eighteen-minutes with his 17:56 mark.

However, last year's state meet runner-up Austin Magness (Paint Rock) isn't too far behind base on time heading into regionals. Magness has a 18:05 SB, but the senior has proven he can run way faster and the state title has to be on his mind.

Favorites: Austin Magness, Hayden King, Elijah Vargas

Sleepers: Colt Lawrence, Caleb Mares, Ethan Alambar, Carson Guidry, Adyn Villa
