Region 1-6A Girls

The girls individual race came down to Macy Wingard and Samantha Humphries who both pulled away from the rest of the field almost immediately.

Wingard then pulled away from Humphries with about 800m remaining to capture her first regional championship.

Carroll teammates Alexandra Walsh and Elizabeth Smits ran to the third and fourth places with Emily Orr getting fifth place in 18:25.

1 Macy Wingard 10	Denton Braswell 17:15.80
2 Samantha Humphries 12	Flower Mound 17:28.90	1
3 Alexandra Walsh 12	Carroll High School	17:52.70	2
4 Elizabeth Smits 11	Carroll High School	18:13.90	3
5 Emily Orr 10	El Paso Franklin	18:25.70	4

Carroll easily won the team title that eluded them last season by one point.  A healthy squad made the difference for the Dragons and gives them a slight nod heading into the state meet.

Adversely, Flower Mound didn't have the luxury of health. They've run with out Nicole Humphries all season long and this time the Lady Jaguars sat out Alexandra Fox as well. Not many teams can place second in Region 1-6A without two of their top three runners. Running without last year's state champion and third place runner is a hearty blow but they could still probably podium in Round Rock.

Northwest Nelson has been creeping closer to the top two teams all season long and with the state meet on deck, that could be their time to strike. El Paso Franklin qualified last season and has been one of the best teams in the state all year and was able to survive the "Doom" of Region 1 and punch their ticket back to state.

Region 2-6A Girls

The North side of Houston dominated the top finishers at Region 2-6A. It was a trio of Staucie Lees, Kathryn Koonts, and Stoya Laydevant running around Lynn Creek Park together until Lees pulled away with about 800m to go. Koonts tried to keep the pace as did Laydevant.

The three went sub 18-minutes with Klein Cain senior Felicity Hamilton in fouth place and Tomball senior Laney Nash was fifth.

Region 3-6A Girls

Madison Peters put in another great regional race to make another state meet. Her 17:23 was a solid solo effort on a not so fast course.

Rowan Saacke finished runner-up with a sub eighteen-minute run and she is also heading back to the state meet for her second cross country championships.

Julia Shimel used her experience to carve out a third place finish to turn in a low stick performance for her team. Maddy Hunter is enjoying a good senior season and her low scoring race was good for her team's aspirations. Claudia Klander outlasted her sister by one second for a fifth place regional finish.

Kingwood captured another Region 3-6A title with a promising 18:52 team average. This bodes well for another possible podium finish at state.

Atascocita is having an eye opening season on the girls side. They have watched their boys enjoy success over the past several seasons and now they get to take the glorious ride to the state meet.

Clear Falls and Katy have been on the verge of crashing through to being a top team in the state all year. They now have the chance to prove it to everyone at state. Clear Falls scored 134 points for third and Katy had 140 to get the final qualifying spot.

Region 4-6A Girls

San Juanita Leal ran away with her second consecutive cross country regional title. Now, she'll turn her focus to winning her first cross country state title. She rolled to the 17:12 win in Corpus and was nearly a minute ahead of the rest of the field.

Maddison Surita is having an awesome season and is a threat for a medal at state; her 18:07 is a good indication. Emma Wade has been the epitome of consistency since her freshman year and has now qualified for every state meet competition in both the spring and fall seasons up to now.

Tibbie Mustacchia has emerged as a force this season to assume the top positon for Vandegrift's squad; she was fourth overall with a 18:44 run. Miah McAulay is another to the elite level. She began 2023 on a good note and a top five run at 4-6A is validation as is the state meet berth.

Vandegrift has been a dominant force in the region and it continues. They qualified for the state meet again by only scoring 48 points.

Dripping Springs is also a steady force in Region 4 no matter whether its 5A or 6A. They added their second straight 6A state qualification in as many years by edging out Lake Travis 153<156. Their 0.41 second split was tough for the other teams except for Vandegrift to overcome.

Lake Traviswith a solid spread with a 0.55 deviation was able to continue their season. The Lady Cavaliers first three runner led the charge and paved the way for the team.

Austin Bowie has been optimistic about their state meet chances all season long and their confidence was high before districts rolled around. That optimism materialized with their fourth place finish this week.
