Folks, it is on from here on out.

District championships are this week and the state meet will be here before you know it.

In this article we want to rank the UIL 5A boys based on their performances so far this year. Last year's state meet had all seniors finish in the first ten places. So, a new 5A all-state team is absolute.

Here are our rankings based on 2024 performances.

1. Miles Westbrook (El Paso)

The El Paso High senior is having a very good season. He has a 14:55 personal best time this season. He started the season with a 15:24 three-mile and the 14:455 followed. He additionally dropped 15:30, 15:47, and 15:06 runs this year.

2. Bryce Denton (Anna)

Denton has a 15:08 PR this season from when he won the DUBEast XC meet. He led off with a 9:42 win at the Friday Night Hawk Invite and then a 16:11. He added 15:19 and 15:31 runs this season.

3. Josh McCartney (Frisco Heritage)

McCartney went 9:52 at the Rock Hill Twilight followed by a 15:55 the week later. His 15:08 PR at the Marcus Coach T XC Invitational was next followed by 15:47 and 15:40 runs to keep him under 16-minutes in every race.

4. Wallace Bullock (Colleyville Heritage)

With only one sub 16-minute run last year, Bullock only has one meet this season where he hasn't run under 16-minutes. He has a 15:17 PR from this year.

5. Diego Romero (El Paso Americas)

Last year, Romero only had one sub 16-minute race prior to the Region 1 and State meet. He rattled off 15:26 and 15:22 runs and placed 13th at state. This year, he has two sub 16:00 runs and a PR with his 15:18 and 15:53 performances.

6. Ethan Carranza (Killeen Ellison)

Carranza placed 36th last year at state and improvement is likely this year. He has a 15:21 PR and additional sub 16:00 runs of 15:41, 15:45, and 15:58.

7. Luis Tovar (Boerne Champion)

Tovar is having a strong senior season. He initiated the season with a 16:05 and followed that up with three consecutive sub 16:00 runs. A 15:35 at the McNeil Invitational was a PR and a good pre-state meet run on the state meet course.

8. John Alcantar (Abilene)

A PB of 16:45 as Alcantar's best time entering this season. That makes his dedication to improvement impressive. His 2024 has a 16:23 opening rae as his slowest of the year. His best runs include a 15:29 PR at the Marcus Coach T XC Invitational followed by a 15:32 and a 15:49 to round out his top three runs.

9. Joseph Reid (Lucas Lovejoy)

Reid was supposed to be one of Lovejoy's top guys this year. Well, the junior has turned into the top buys so far this season. He has SB runs of 15:30 and 15:42 and with a repeat 5A team title on the line, expect him to continue to crank things up.

10. Jaxon Asbill (Dayton)

Asbill had a 16:03 entering the season from his state meet race in 2023. This year, he has run faster in every race except one. He has a 15:33 PR and a 15:50 second best run on the season.
