Region 1 Meet Preview For Each Classification

Region 1-1A

Girls Team Race Preview:

Region 1-1A has five teams ranked in the most recent CCCAT poll; No. 2 Nazareth, No. 3 Jayton, No. 4 Springlake-Earth, No. 8 Lenorah Grady, No. 10 Ackerly Sands.

Grady looks to have the fastest team split on the season with their 13:23 followed by last years regional champ Springlake-Earth's 13:36.

At last year's state meet, it was Nazareth placing second, Springlake-Earth third and Jayton fifth at state.


Favorites: Nazareth, Jayton, Springlake Earth, Lenorah Grady, Ackerly Sands

Sleepers: Gail Borden County, Whiteface, White Deer


Girls Individual Race Preview:

One name - - Taytum Goodman.

The Springlake-Earth star has shone brighter perhaps more than any 1A runner in UIL history. She has won the last three Region 1-1A and UIL 1A state meet titles.

Not only should Goodman excel again, but last year's runner-up Jace Chisum and Haley Connell should both be back to compete.

Macie Stack has a 12:58 on mark for the only other sub thirteen-minute run this year.

Boys Team Race Preview:

No. 2 Jayton and No. 9 Texline are ranked by the CCCAT heading into the weekend. Jayton finished third last year at the state meet, missing the state title by a mere eight points.

Other teams to watch in Lubbock are Happy, Wellman-Union, Lenorah Grady and Ackerly Sands.

Boys Individual Race Preview:

Only three boys from last year's top-ten graduated leaving seven of them with an opportunity to battle back this year.

One of the returners is region champ Wiley Gaskins (Ackerly Sands); Gaskins was eighth at the state meet. Reel Griffith (Jayton) was the regional runner-up and sixth at state.
