Region 1 Meet Preview For Each Classification

Region 1-2A

Girls Team Race Preview:

The common theme throughout this preview is how good the region is from 1A to 6A. The amount of ranked teams is unreal. The 2A girls have five top-ten ranked teams in the latest CCCAT poll with No. 3 Christoval, No. 5 Gruver, No. 6 Panhandle, No. 7 Farwell, and No. 8 New Deal.

Of those teams, New Deal, Panhandle, and Gruver all have compressions of 0.50 seconds or less for their top five runners.
Favorites: Christoval, Gruver, Panhandle, Farewell, New Deal

Girls Individual Race Preview:

There are eight girls who have sub thirteen-minute marks this year. The Farwell duo of Isabella Jaime and Alexis Wade took their shot at the Old Settlers last month at the Hoka One McNeil Inv. Jaime ran 12:12 and Wade went 12:28.

The No. 2 Plains, No. 8 Big Lake Reagan County, and No. 9 Quanah are the CCAT ranked teams in the region.

The Plains boys have three runners under 17:25 this season, helping them to a season best 17:46 team average. They are the defending state team champions and they look in good shape to repeat.

New Deal was eleventh at last year's state meet and have a good chance to return.

Boys Individual Race Preview:

The Quanah duo of Dwight Don Juan and Anish Bhakta have the fastest two times in the region, but they were on a short Rattlesnake Run course. However, the seniors who placed 17th and 70th at last year's state meet will be impactful in next week's race.

Plains has a trio who will be need to be dealt with. Sawyer Hamilton, Jhoan Menjivar, and Jeremiah Gonzales finished 1, 2, 3 at last year's Region 1-2A championships and going 8th, 12th, and 34th at state. Mejivar was third at the state track meet last spring in the 400m and won the 800m. Hamilton was seventh in the 3200m.
