Top Returning Hurdlers
Cy-Falls has a duo of talented returners. Isaiah Lucas and Tyler Guillory are the #1 and #3 110H returners in the State. Lucas has a wind legal PR of 13.78 and Guillory has a 13.79 legal PR and is off to a fast start to the year by running a 8.16 in the 60H at the Texas A&M High School Invite. Lucas is the World Youth Champion and the 6A State 2nd place finisher. When it comes to the 300H, Lucas won the 6A State race and has a PR of 35.56. Guillory has a 300H PR of 37.83. Ft. Bend Marshall Senior Jeremy Smith enters the season with a 37.40 PR. Smith placed 4th in the 2015 5A 300H race and is looking to come away with a State Championship this year. Smith also has a 14.4 110H PR.
Top 400M Returners
Manvel's Howard Fields placed 6th in the 6A 400m Finals last year as a sophomore. He finished the season with a 47.00 PR. Fields is already off to an amazing start by running a 47.75 for a US #3 at the Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic. Fields is optimistic about the upcoming 2016 performances of Texas 400 runners, "I'm expecting to see some 46s and 45s outdoors." Houston Strake Jesuit's Christian McStravick is also a 2015 6A 400m Finalist. McStravick place 9th at the State meet. He finished 2nd behind Fields at the Region 3 6A meet for a 47.57 PR. McStravick looks to improve on both the PR and the State meet performance. Ft Bend Marshall has two 400M standouts of it's own. Senior John Isom has a 48.61 PR. Isom looks to possibly add another race to his individual repertoire as well as drop into the 47 second range. Marshall also has Tyrell Valentine. Valentine has an outdoor PR of 49.35. Like other Marshall teammates, Valentine is off to a hot start to the indoor season by running 49.74 at the Texas A&M High School Classic. Manvel's D'Vaughn Pennamon also has a PR of 48.49.
Middle Distance Top Returners
Last year, Cameron White of Summer Creek was the only person to give Myles Marshall a run for his money. White held on to Marshall until the last 100m of their District 16-6A race. White hung on for a 1:53.53 PR that day, which makes him the #2 returner in the state this year. The senior is looking to improve on his State meet performance and 6th place finish. White as already posted impressive times in the open 400 (50.73 at Texas A&M) and open 800 (2:00.25 at Carl Lewis). Manvel's Josh Martin is another top 800M. Martin won the Region 3-6A meet and place 8th at the State meet. Martin looks to improve on his 1:55.05. Martin is a key member on the Manvel 4x4 that place 2nd at state. Martin has impressive 2016 indoor marks of 52.04 (Texas A&M) and 2:04.22 (Carl Lewis). Pearland Dawson's Matthew Murray specializes in slightly longer distances. Murray smoothly transitioned from a swimming into running. Murray has qualified for State several times in XC as well as both the 1600 and 3200. Murray has PRs of 5K-15:31, 3200-9:28, and 1600-4:21. One of the top runners in Region 3-6A, Murray looks to win a Regional crown and head back to the State meet.
