2024 Region 2-1A Girls

Region 2-1A Girls

It was freshmen Mattie Broussard (Bellevue) 12:36 and Joslyn Whitfill (Bryson) in 12:55 going 1-2 in this regional race.

Mattie Dollar (Newcastle) was third and the only other runner to go under 13-minutes.

Sulphur Bluff was able to secure the team win with a nice team average of 14:01. Their 0.24 spread was the most impressive part of this race. Staying that tight assured them the win.

Gorman was almost just as fast. Their second place finish was due to their 14:02 average, just one second off of Sulphur Bluff.

It was a tight race for the final two state meet qualifying positions.

Woodson's score of 144 was only three points better than Newcastle who had two low point scoring runners up front, but Woodson's 4, 3, and 5 runners were close enough and good for the third.

Saint Jo just missed out by four points and Miller Grove was seven points behind.

The Jayton boys won another regional title, this one was just Region 2 instead of Region 1. Stanaland and senior Griff Reel who was fourth were the two low stick runners for the team as they dominated this race

2024 Region 2-2A Girls

Region 2-2A Girls

Who would have thought?

We knew the Hamilton girls were good. Heck, they are the defending state champions. They're athletic. They're talented. They do multiple sports.

No doubt about it, one of those sports is Cross Country!

Hamilton swept the Region 2-2A race finishing 1-5 for a perfect score of 15. It doesn't get any lower than that.

Presley Long is in her bag this year! She won the race with a 11:49 and teammate Chaska Downs also dipped under 12-minutes again with her 11:54.

Anna Pearcy finished in 12:05, Kaitlyn Walton ran 12:14, and Kate Lengefeld also went 12:14.

That adds up to a blazing 12:03 average and only a 25-second gap....pure domination!

As long as a Hamilton team has a Long and Lengefeld, there is little chance beating them. Both girls had brothers a couple of year back for Hamilton and they were good. I think they were in the same class like Preslye and Kate are both 2026 girls.

By the way, not to look too far ahead, but none of these girls graduate this year.

1. Hamilton - 15 points - 0.25 Spread  I  12:03 Avg

2. Hico - 146 points - 1:07 Spread  I  13:25 Avg

3. Crawford - 159 points - 1:10 Spread  I  13:30 Avg

4. Santo - 171 points - 1:57 Spread  I  13:29 Avg

2024 Region 2-2A Boys

Region 2 2A Boys

Marco Cunningham (Waco Meyer) is the top returner from last year's 2A Boys state meet and he looks ready to make another run at the state title.

Cunningham won Region 2-2A with a 16:35 run, out running Francis Patanpatan (Hawley) who was second in 16:58.

Those were the only two boys under 17-minutes, but right at 17:00 on the dot was Michael Flores (Itasca) for third place.

1. Windthorst - 83 points - 2:03 Spread  I  17:53 Avg

2. Waco Meyer - 120 points - 2:56 Spread  I  18:11 Avg

3. Collinsville - 151 points - 1:27 Spread  I  18:41 Avg

4. Haskell - 167 points - 1:49 Spread  I  18:48 Avg

Region 2-3A Girls

It was senior Katie De Gorostiza (Quitman) running to a 11:43 first place finish in the 3A girls race. She was joined by Olivia Hughes (Mineola) as the only other girl under 12-minutes and in second place.

It was Carley Pitman (Eustace) getting in for third with a time of 12:02.

Eustace came over from Region 3-3A to Region 2 this year and they were able to win the title in their first year back over there. They only ran a 12:36 team average and a very good 60-second gap.

Pilot Point who is running without a super star this year, showed that they are still a good team as they also had a solid core throughout the years. They ran a 53-second gap time and a 12:46 average.

De Gorostiza helped lead Quitman to third place as a team and fourth place individual finisher Aubrey Beam is headed back to state as is her Whitesboro squad that finished fourth in the team standings.
1. Eustace - 89 points - 1:00 Spread  I  12:38 Avg
2. Pilot Point - 106 points - 0:53 Spread  I  12:46 Avg

4. Whitesboro - 125 points - 1:17 Spread  I  12:52 Avg

Region 2-3A Boys

Region 2 3A Boys

Of all the boys who entered with sub 16-minute runs on the season, it was only Miguel Cedillo (Winona) who was able to engineer a sub 16 race this day. Cedillo won running away in 15:52.

Hunter Finney (Hughes Springs) was second in 16:09 and last year's regional runner-up Chase Gossett (Commerce) was third in 16:11.

2024 Region 2-4A Girls

Region 2-4A Girls

We knew Giselle Alejandro (Henderson) had a shot at winning going into the race, but she made it clear, she was more than just a shot in the dark. Her 11:22 winning time was more than 23-seconds faster than the runner-up.

Second was Tatum Cross (Celina) who was comfortably in second with a time of 11:45. Abigail Kelley (Lindale) was third with a 11:52 run.

Edith Martinez (Sulphur Springs) at 11:58 and Trista Etheridge (Mabank) coming in with a 11:59 were the only other girls under 12:00.

It was Celina decisively who won the region with a 12:22 team average and a 61-second gap time.

2024 Region 2-4A Boys

Region 2-4A Boys

This was a really good race both individually and for the team qualifiers.

We knew Tyrus Cowan (Sunnyvale) was legit coming in and he showed it. He was fast (15:57) and he was good enough to hold off a great challenge from runner-up Isaiah Colorado (Van). Colorado finished just two seconds back in 15:59.

Daniel Martinez (Sanger) finished in third place with a time of 16:24.

Gainesville wasn't the fastest up front, but they were as tight of a squad as there was in the region. They only had a 33-second spread and they were able to put all of their scorers in front of everyone else's fourth and fifth scoring runners.

1. Gainesville - 87 points - 0:33 Spread  I  17:09 Avg

2. Sanger - 96 points - 1:46 Spread  I  17:09 Avg

3. Longview Pine Tree - 115 points - 1:11 Spread  I  17:15 Avg

2024 Region 2-5A Girls

Region 2-5A Girls

Camryn Benson continued the regional stronghold Lucas Lovejoy has had both in the individual race and team race on Region 2-5A. With a winning time of 18:26, the junior won the race.

Galilea De La Garza (McKinney North) turned in a great race and showed her kick to run 18:39 for second place just under a half of a second over Presley Robertson (Frisco Wakeland).

The Leopards showed that it's going to take a near perfect race for anyone to knock them off the 5A throne.

With all five scorers in front of everyone's second runner, they didn't show any signs of slowing down and their 45-second gap will keep them competitive.

Wakeland's second, third, and fourth runners were solid behind Robertson's low stick run.

Highland Park was really good in the front of their lineup and Reedy was good in the middle of theirs.

1. Lucas Lovejoy - 39 points - 0:45 Spread  I  18:54 Avg

2. Frisco Wakeland - 88 points - 1:14 Spread  I  19:23 Avg

3. Dallas Highland Park - 111 points - 2:09 Spread  I  19:37 Avg

4. Frisco Reedy - 132 points - 1:57 Spread  I  19:51 Avg

Region 2 5A Boys

Bryce Denton (Anna) was ran loose in Grand Prairie earlier this week. Even though he stepped up a classification, it was still no match for the senior. He won the race with a 15:19, almost 30-seconds ahead of runner-up Josh McCartney (Frisco Heritage).

Andrew Malan (Frisco Lebanon Trail) was third in the race and the third of six boys who were under 16-minutes.

The individual race was wild as the third, fourth, fifth sixth, and seventh place runners all finished within three seconds.

The team race was just as good.

Lovejoy was fabulous and only scored 52-points. Their team average was a 16:15. That is awesome and their 28-second gap was insurmountable.

Wakeland, Highland Park, McKinney North, and Reedy were all in the hunt for the remaining three team positions.

Reedy was set up perfectly to finish second, but 93 points from the five spot gave them a 152 point total, which was too much for this region.

Reedy was nine points behind Highland Park  and McKinney North who tied with 141 points. Highland Park's sixth runner was 53rd in the race and McKinney North's six was 58th giving them third place.

Wakeland ran a 31-second compression, which was good enough to secure the second place finish

2024 Region 2-6A Girls

Region 2-6A Girls

Lily Fawcett (Bridgeland) might have just let the cat out of the bag one meet early. Her 17:32 winning time shows she is obviously in really good shape and is an all-state possibility.

Rowan Saacke (Bridgeland) was runner-up and she also ran sub 18-minutes with a time of 17:51.

Klein Oak senior Lydia Butler was third in 18:08.

Fawcett and Saacke guided Bridgeland to the regional win and they had a very fast 18:13 team average. Even though they had a 1:12 gap, they still put their top five in front of every team's number three runners.

The Woodlands was second, Klein third, and Magnolia was fourth.

1. Bridgeland - 35 points - 1:12 Spread  I  18:13 Avg
2. The Woodlands - 87 points - 1:06 Spread  I  19:05 Avg
3. Klein - 107 points - 1:34 Spread  I  19:11 Avg
4. Magnolia - 150 points - 2:03 Spread  I  19:34 Avg

2024 Region 2-6A Boys

Region 2-6A Boys

The Bridgeland boys saw their girls team go 1-2 individually and win the team title. Benjamin Montgomery and Griffen Saacke were able to replicate that on the boys side.

Montgomery went berserk running a 14:56 for the win and Saacke was at 15:19 in second.

Elton Martin (The Woodlands) wasn't far behind Saacke, going 15:19 for third place.

As talented as the individuals in this region, the teams are just as good.

The Bears got the win with an podium worthy 15:30 average and a 50-second spread. The Woodlands' stat line was impressive with their 15:52 and 48-second spread.

College Park wasn't shabby with a 16:00 average and 47-second spread.

The three previous teams all made it to state last year. Waxahachie followed through on what they aspired to accomplish by making it to state this year. After a disappointing finish in 2023, they exhibited determination and a business like mindset to achieve this.

They ran a 16:04 average  and an impressive 38-second gap.

1. Bridgeland - 35 points - 0:50 Spread  I  15:30 Avg

2. The Woodlands - 76 points - 0:48 Spread  I  15:52

3. The Woodlands College Park - 91 points - 0:47 Spread  I  16:00 Avg

4. Waxahachie - 106 points - 0:38 Spread  I  16:04
