Madison Pecot of White Oak won the Texas 2A girls state title in 12'6"

Joseph Anderson of Luling won the Texas 2A boys state title for a 3rd time with a clearance of 6'11".

Jacob Perry of Sanger won the Texas 3A boys 3200 state title in 9:30.73.

Haley Teel of Gregory-Portland won the Texas 4A girls discus state title with a mark of 144'10".

Ann Marie Dunlap of Crawford won the Texas 2A girls 3200 state title in 11:14.16.

Joseph Carrasco of Sanderson won the Texas 1A-D2 boys 3200 title in a new meet record of 9:56.30

Kamie Halfman of Garden City won the girls 3200 in a new meet record time of 11:28.10 for Texas 1A-D2 classification.

A total of 5 US #1's were recorded among nearly 900 MileSplit US national elite performances at the 2014 UIL Texas State Track & Field Championships in Austin.

Watch the Kingwood boys close out the 2014 UIL Track and Field Championships at the University of Texas in Austin with a US leading 3:13.25 4x400 meter relay as well as all the remaining race videos by MileSplit from the Texas State Meet. Note: No race video is longer than 3 minutes in total highlights footage due to UIL state meet media policy, so the longer races such as the 1600, 3200, and 4x400 are condensed down.

AUSTIN – The Kennedale boys track and field team was only entered in three events, but quality was more important than quantity Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Senior Leon Powell won the 200 meters and Kennedale won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays to clinch its first Class 3A boys title. ... (via High School Sports Blog)

Legally blind pole vaulter soars to new heights as a role model [...] Brown recognized the magnitude of the moment as she was surrounded by cameras and reporters. "When I set out to pole vault and try to figure this out, I never thought this is going to be an inspiration to people or I'm going to be a role model to people," said Brown, who cleared 11 feet. Brown was born with normal vision but developed sight problems that required surgery when she was an infant and a later procedure during elementary school. When Brown races, she runs in the inside lane, where the contrast between the track (usually black) and grass guides her around. Last year, she used an indoor-outdoor carpet put down next to the running lane to create the contrast. (via Houston Chronicle)

AUSTIN - Saturday marked the debut of the UIL state track and field meet's wheelchair division, with competitors participating in the 100- and 400-meters races and the shot put. Said Kingwood junior Myles Marshall, who repeated as champion in the 800: "With a lot of races, I just make sure that I still think about finishing and still running my race even without the gold medal." The Cypress Springs girls (42 points) finished second behind Converse Judson (66) in 5A, placing in all three relays - the 800 relay finished second and 1,600 relay fifth - and notching a pair of top-six finishes from Essance Sample and Ariah Mack.
