Analysis: Hendrickson comes in with a solid resume from Cross Country last year, He placed 8th last year at the state Cross Country Championship which makes him the highest placing returner in 2013. He has solid PR's on the track also going 9:10/4:17. He did lose 4 head to head match-ups on the track to Austen Dalquist but he dominated Dalquist on the cross country course last year beating him at district and region. The Southlake kids are always ready to run fast in the fall. I think Connor is the one to beat in Round Rock this year.
Analysis: Lara is a great distant runner. He always seems to fly under the radar. He has quick track Pr's of 9:15/4:16. He had a terrific cross season last year. He did not finish at State meet but won Region III. Don't forge he also has an awesome training partner in RJ Ammons in practice. If he is healthy Frank has a good chance as anybody to win the cross title this year.
Analysis: Dalquist really broke out during 2013 track season running 4:10/9:11. He beat our #1 Connor Hendrickson on the track in both the 3200 and 1600 at Districts and Regionals. I think the incredible track season will carry over to this cross country season. Dalquist had an off day at Region I last year placing 14th and not qualifying for the state meet. He has never been to the state meet and this lack of experience is one of the reasons he is ranked in this position. He has all the tools to be a star in the fall though.
Analysis: Dohner is simply one of the best in Texas. He has been tearing it up since his FR year. It is in his blood, he is the younger brother of Texas All-American Ryan Dohner from the University of Texas. Brad has solid Track Pr's of 4:17/9:22. He seems to be talented on the cross country course. He has ran some great races including 10th last year at Nike South Regionals over our #2 Frank Lara. He has had some bad luck at the Cross Country State meets though placing 90th in 2011 and 18th in 2012. There is no doubt that he is one of the best in Texas when he is on.
Analysis: Logan is the only non-senior in the top 5. He has made steady improvements over the last couple of years. Like Dohner I think he is more talented on the cross country course at this stage of his career. He does have solid Pr's on the track of 4:21/9:30. He placed 10th last year at the cross country state meet which means he is the #2 highest finishing returner behind our #1 Hendrickson. He was right behind #4 Dohner at Nike South and just ahead of #2 Frank Lara. He is training under legendary coach Steve Telaneus..
Analysis: RJ could be ranked higher in our list. He is a teammate of our #2 Frank Lara and has posted impressive times on the track of 4:14/9:03. He really excels on the track. RJ is the third highest returning finisher at the 2012 state meet ahead of our #4 Brad Dohner. RJ Placed 15th overall in 15:56. He lost his head to head match ups with #5 Logan at State and Nike South.
Analysis: Zach is probably on no radar but he is a talented runner. He has Track PR's of 1:53/4:14/9:28. He is more of a middle distance runner on the track so that was the main reason he is ranked behind #6 RJ. He went 1 to 1 last year against #6 RJ beating him at Nike South but losing to him at State. He finished right behind our #4 Brad Dohner at the State Meet by less than a second. He also comes from an up and coming program coached by George Lutkenhaus.
Analysis: Weskey had a solid track season with PR's of 4:18/9:27. He was having a great 2012 cross country season but he ran into problems at the Region I Meet. In 2012 he did beat #5 Logan at Nike South Invitational. He has a teammate in the top 10 list and is trained by coach Cook so I expect Wesley to have a breakout Cross Country Season.
Analysis:: Connor and #5 Logan Hendrix are the only 2 underclassmen on our list so you know his future is bright. He has fast Track Pr's of 4:23/9:28 as a SOPH. Head to Head he taken some big scalps like #4 Brad Dohner and #7 Zach Kirkland. He is a top 10 talent.
Analysis: Zach comes in at #10. He is another kid no one really mentions much. He has fast track Pr's of 4:18/9:35. I think it helps to have a talent athlete to help you in training and Zach has that with #8 Wesley Ward. He placed 22nd at State Cross last year just 3 seconds behind #4 Brad Dohner. Coach Cook will have him ready for a top 10 finish at State this year.
