Hudson Bennett competes at the 2021 Vista Ridge Inv.
Class 4A
Jetzibe Trevino (Huffman-Hargrave) is on a roll this season and her 11:42 regional best is a good sign of it. The junior also has a very solid 5K time to prove her 2021 fitness. She was third last year at regionals and eighth at state and she is a for sure threat to the 4A state title.
Kayleigh Wagnon (Hudson) is the defending regional champ and adding another one in her senior year will be motivation. Wagnon has a 11:55 as her top time going into the regional.
Expect Alexa Williams (Salado) and Rachael Hartley (Robinson) who also have sub 12:00 SBs to be in the race with Trevino and Wagnon battling it out for the win.
Huffman-Hargrave, Hudson, and Salado all qualified as teams last season and they seem to be in the drivers seats to qualify again this year.
Salado graduated Jaci McGregor, their top runner from the last four years, but they could be an even better team this season. They have a 12:18 team average and an outstanding 40 second 1-5 split.
Lake Belton will be the fourth team looking to get in the mix as hey have a 12:40 team average and the ability to run a very good split of 0:37 seconds.
After Huffman-Hargrave and Hudson, it will take a very big effort and a very good day from anyone else to crack the top four.
Hudson Bennett (Burnet) is the defending regional champ and a state champion on the track. He's been consistent in the 15 high range all season long; that consistency has come in some very high profile races and against the larger schools.
Competition for Bennett could come from Connor Graves (16:17) and Austin Ponder (16:28) both of Hudson.
Huffman-Hargrave, Salado, and Palestine all made it out as teams last year, and Huffman-Hargrave returns several of their contributors from last season.
Sealy, Hudson, Burnet, and Giddings could all be in play for the other qualifying spots.
