2021 UIL 4A girls 1,600m state championships

Last year, there was a push for the UIL state meet record with two girls coming just over a second of it in the girls 1,600m.  The top three ranked girls and five of the top 10 from last year all graduated. 

When you hear the numbers coming up, it may not sound like it, but I promise some of the girls who ran the 1,600m graduated last year. When you see that 17 girls who ran 5:00 and under return for 2022, it puts it in perspective how fast the girls event is. That includes eight girls who ran 4:55 and under, and two who ran under 4:50.

Oh yeah, now consider there are also two outstanding move-ins; one being Cameron McConnell, now of Canyon Randall who was the Colorado state runner-up in 4:53.

This year, we could potentially see five to 10 (possibly more) girls run under 4:50. The event is literally turning into a run/sprint.
