The UIL 6A race will start off the weekend's show, as they will be the first races of the day. The usual big named team programs will take the course. As with the other classes, there will be winning streaks on the line and plenty of suiters trying to end those streaks.
On the girls side, the season has been a complete whirlwind. The two time defending 6A champs Keller started the year off on top, but as the season went on, other programs quickly made their claim at the top spot. The Flower Mound and Coppell girls looked very strong out of the gate, but then other programs like good ole faithful Southlake Carroll and the Prosper girls began to make everyone take notice.
As of late, its been Keller and Carroll looking like they are back in the saddle and at the front of the pack. Can Keller win their third straight UIL 6A team state title or can Carroll get back to the top spot that is usually theirs? Or, will we find out that Prosper is beginning to run things in Texas?
If anyone outside of the Dallas metroplex will have a shot it'll probably come from Austin Vandegrift, Katy Tompkins, or the Region 4-6A surprise champs Weslaco.
The boys team scenario has been and is still just as confusing as the girls if not more. Flower Mound has been the top team most of the year, with others probing around trying to get near the top spot. Katy Tompkins has been consistent all year long and has a viable shot at taking home the crown. The teams to look out for are possibly the two who are perennially there but have been thought of being down for the season. The Woodlands and Southlake Carroll are usually in the top two spots, but were considered to have a weak year. However, they are looking like their same old selves at the right time of the year. They both won their regional meets and are riding hight into state.
Two teams running well are Keller and El Paso Americans and they both could be in for a trophy winning season.
We will see if this year follows the annual pattern or if there is a twist in 2018.
