Region 3 Meet Preview For Each Classification

Region 3-3A Girls

Girls team race preview:

Lorena- Stealing the last state spot last year in the tie at regionals afforded the Lorena girls the opportunity to run in high-pressure postseason races. With a close race McGregor, I believe the Lorena girls will pull out the win, due to their race experience. However, Lorena's 3-5 will have to run a good race to ensure their victory. The Lorena girls are led by Freshman Jaylah Fish and Senior Landry Wagoner.

McGregor- In a competitive race I believe that the McGregor girls should easily be able to lock up silver in Huntsville. The girls could have a chance at gold if their 2-4 have a great race. Being ranked #7 on the CCCAT polls don't be surprised if they upset the Lorena girls. The McGregor Girls are led by Freshman Jessika Valdez and Melina Espinoza.

Eustace- While there is a battle between the 1st and 2nd spot, there is also a battle between 3rd and 4th. I believe Eustace will have the stronger race and take bronze. This position is because of their depth through 7 runners comparatively to West. If it comes down to a tiebreaker then Eustace would take the win. These girls are led by Sophomore Carley Pitman and Junior Page Miller

West- The West girls should be able to take the last ticket to the state and be able to compete for a medal. While they have a stronger 3 and 4 runner, they would need to have a better race in the other positions to be able to upset Eustace. The West girls are led by Junior Laynie Davis and Freshman Amelia Cole.

Sleeper Picks: Rodgers, Clifton

Region 3-3A Boys

Boys team race preview:

Eustace- With probably no surprise we have Eustace taking home the regional team championship. After last year's huge margin of victory, we think it is safe to say they will be taking the win home in Huntsville this year. Coming into regionals their team average is a blazing 16:34. Being led by Senior Ryan Porte and Freshman Brendon Greenlee they should have the win locked up.

This team should be looked at to contend for the state title as they are No. 1 in the CCCAT Polls.

Troy- The Troy boys are in a tough district we have the Troy boys coming in silver at regionals. While it will be a close race for second, with McGregor. Their wins over them in the regular season are what has them ranked ahead of McGregor. Troy is led by Senior Carlos Jose Cortez and Junior Grayson Williams.

McGregor- Not far behind Troy, we have the McGregor boys taking the last podium spot. Having a good history in the regional race and championship experience should help them secure at least a 4th place finish. McGregor is being led by Senior Benjamin Castro and Junior Angel Sanchez.

East Bernard- I have East Bernard getting the last ticket to state in the 3A Boys race. The #4 raked team according to the CCCAT poll should be able to make the big show in November. The team is led by Senior Christopher Kopecky and Sophomore Ty Grigar.

Sleeper Picks: Clifton, Boling

Individuals: Benjamin Castro (McGregor) and Carlos Jose Cortez (Troy) should be in a tight battle for gold. The chase pack behind them will include Ryan Porte (Eustace), Christopher Kopecky (East Bernard) and Emanuel Covarrubias (Boling)

Sleeper Picks: Brendon Greenlee, Jesus Bocanegra, Dale Hudspeth
