Region 3 Meet Preview For Each Classification

Region 3-6A Girls

Girls team race preview:

The girl's top four battle is going to be a blood bath for the top four spots.

Coming into the Region 3 meet, the CCCAT No.5 ranked team Humble Kingwood is coming in with a hot start to the championship season, they won their district in stellar fashion having six of their top girls in the top ten and finalizing the team points scoring twenty points. The lady Mustangs are the favorites to win the Region 3 meet for the third year in a row and get back on the podium at state.

Coming into the mix is Katy. They're led by University of Houston commit Maddy Hunter, who is coming off a fantastic victory from her district meet clocking in a 17:41.53 in the process. The Tiger Den is coming in with an impressive 18:50.45 team average.

A team everyone was very curious to see how their season would play out is the Lady Knights of Clear Falls. The Knights are led by senior Kaitlyn Gale who has a PB of 18:00.7 and Katherine Valentine who has an 18:00.4 PB. If the Clear Falls program can piece the puzzle correctly they have an opportunity to make it to the UIL 6A State meet once again the same way they did back in 2020.

The Humble Atascocita girls program has stepped up big time this and is looking race ready coming into the championship season. The Eagles are led by senior Summer Call who has been on a rampage this season setting a 18:24.48 PB at her district course two weeks ago, and is looking to continue leading her team to make a state appearance. Atascocita is coming into the Region 3 meet with a 19:15.23 team average.

Katy Tompkins is a program that everyone hears about year in and year out and it comes as no surprise that the Falcons are one of the favorite teams to make it out. Sophomore Rowan Saacke leads the Falcons and she has been on a quest this season from breaking a course record at the Seven Lakes XC Showcase to setting a huge PB of 17:39 ran at the Lovejoy XC Fall Festival. The Falcons have a team average of 19:31.86

Girl's Individual Race Preview:

It is fair to say that senior Madison Peters (Pearland) should walk away with the victory.

Sophomore Sophia Hamdani (Houston Bellaire) didn't have the start of her season to her standards but quickly flipped the script setting a season best time of 18:17.45 at the SBISD Invitational.

There is double trouble in Region 3 with Mayde Creek sophomores. Claudia Klander who has a PB of 18:25.36, and Jamie Klander who has a PB of 18:28.03 have been on a roll this season and look to lead their team to a hopeful outcome.

The 5k distance wouldn't be much fun if there wasn't someone with 800m track speed around. Senior Niamh Collins of Houston Stratford is crushing her senior year setting a PB of 18:39.10 and junior Sophia Nguyen of Richmond George Ranch, who had a little bit of a bumpy road throughout the season but still can't take away from the fact that she is the sixth best returning runner from last years Region 3 meet.

Favorites: Madison Peters, Rowan Saacke, Maddy Hunter, Katherine Valentine, Kaitlyn Gale, Sophia Hamdani,

Sleepers: Jamie Klander, Claudia Klander, Addison Scott, Kristen Thomas, Addison Sutton, Bissinatt Abdelasis

Region 3-6A Boys

Boys team race preview:

The 6A boy's race is going to be the race to watch out for on Tuesday.

The CCCAT No.5 ranked team Katy Tompkins is coming in as the favorite to win it all on the boy's side they're led by senior Parker Wood who has a PB of 15:21.68 and helps lead the team to a 15:43.30 team average.

There is another flock of Falcons to deal with as well; the Clear Lake boys team is looking to stun the field and show Region 3 that they belong to be in the conversation.

Senior Sam Golla leads the Falcons and has a PB of 15:02 which also puts him as the favorite to win the Region 3 gold medal. Clear Lake is entering the meet with a team average of 15:55.38.

Coming into the season, many people were asking themselves if the Strake Jesuit program would ever be the same as it was in the past few years this year. The Crusaders have found a new leader in senior Jackson Jamison. He has been very consistent throughout the year and he's looking to lead his Crusaders to another state appearance. Strake Jesuit has a team average of 16:20.98.

The Katy boys are also one of the teams that have been stepping it up this year. Senior David Kalwahali is leading the Katy Tigers with his 15:45.30 season best time. The Tigers are entering the meet with a 16:03.78

Houston Stratford is coming in as the third fastest team with a team average of 16:01.37 with their one through five team average. Junior Benjamin Pearce leads the Spartans with his PB of 15:31.8.

Summer Creek is a dangerous squad to look out for this weekend. They are running with reckless abandon but with confidence as well.

The confidence is from winning their first district cross country championships. That's right, they beat both Kingwood and Atascocita, which has never happened before. The reklessness comes from having two freshmen and three juniors who are running in new territory. This squad appears to be getting better each race and this is the time to get on a hot streak.
