Chances To Win Individual Title
Several top finishers from 2023 are back for the 2024 state meet.
The 2024 defending state champ Sebastian Talamantez (Comstock) won the Region 4 title with a 16:37 run.
Last year's runner-up Ryker Haivala (Cumby Miller Grove) won Region 3 with a 17:20 race where he won by almost a minute.
Jose Ventura (Lasara) was third last year at state. He finished runner-up behind Talamantez at Region 4 when he went 16:59.
Those are three guys who should again be at the front of this race on Saturday.
Other top regional performers who will be impactful are Adrian Rosales (Booker) who won Region 1 with a run of 16:55, Hayden King (Clyde Eula) 17:32 won Region 2 , Eli Williams (Zephyr) ran 17:26, and Brandon Timms (Tilden McMullen County) ran 17.27.
Chances To Win Team Title
Comstock won Region 4 with the fastest regional average. The third place 2023 finishers and top ranked 1 A squad went 18:01 with a 2:53 spread.
Booker had the second best average with their 18:23 run in Lubbock. The No. 4 ranked squad turned in a 2:17 spread.
Second ranked Jayton won Region 2 with a 19:11 average and. 2:21 spread. They'll need to lower both if they want to push for the state title.
Tilden McMullen County, the fifth ranked team in the state was second in Corpus Christi behind Comstock. They ran a 18:41 team average.
Zephyr is ranked No. 3 in Texas and they ran a 18:37 average at Region 4. However, their 3:04 gap is too large to compete for a state title or podium. They'll have to crunch that down some.
Number five ranked Miller Grove ran 18:51 at Region 3 with a 2:53 spread. They should be able to contend this weekend, especially if they an lower that gap.
