Boys 400m
Jostyn Andrews
To focus on qualifying Arlington Martin's relays, 2015 400m state champion and 2016 indoor national 400m champion Keshun Reed opted out of running the open 400m. This opened the door for a new state champion to take the crown. That next state champion could be Jamarkus Birks from North Crowley. The senior is the only one with a sub-47-second seed time, which currently ranks him as Texas No. 2 (6A No. 1) and U.S. No. 11. Junior Howard Fields and senior Jostyn Andrews will do their best to challenge him. Fields, backed by state meet experience from last year, holds the sixth-fastest Texas time this year with a 47.21. Andrews holds the third-fastest time this year with his 46.97 from the Arlington Bowie Volunteer Relays.
