Meet Preview: Region 3 Cross Country Championships

Douglass boys post race interview at 2021 Lufkin Coke Classic

Class 2A

Dede Davis (Mount Enterprise) is the fastest runner going into the the regional race with her 12:46. However with Cassity Turner and Calista Turner showed last year as freshmen that they are two tough competitors. Cassity has the second best time coming into Monday with her 12:51.

Add Madyson Freeman (Douglass) and Karis Dieterich (Axtell) (and you have the other sub 13-minute girls and most of the top girls returning from last year's regional race.

Dieterich is the reigning regional champ and could get extra motivation to win her second.

Union Grove won the region last year and is in good position to do it again. They enter with a 13:29 team average with a 0:39 split.

Axtel will will be one of the teams looking to also grab qualifying spots for state. Moody, Douglass, and Groveton look to be in good position to grab some of those spots.

Ary Hernandez (New Summerfield) is the reigning region champ, but Jose Garcia (Cushing) is having a heck of a senior year. He leads the region with his 16:53.

Based on the stats, Garcia and the rest of the the group should be ready for a big day and it could be a host of guys trying to close the gap on Garcia.

New Summerfield should be the team to beat. Not only do the have Hernandez, but the have Marco Uribe who can be a front runner. Their 3-5 guys only have three seconds separating their PRs.

The battle will be for second. Hawkins, Douglass and Tenaha will be in close contended race. Hawkins has a 19:09.37 average, Tenaha has a 19:09.42 average, and Douglass has a 19:11 team average.
