UIL State Meet Preview

UIL 3A Girls

Chances To Win Individual Title

The reigning and defending state champion Sophia Bendet (Randolph) is back and after her 2023 regular season. She should be considered the prohibitive favorite.

It doesn't look like she intends on being relieved at the top of 3A. She won the Region 4-3 individual title for the second consecutive season in a time of 11:19 and is heading into Round Rock without a blemish on the season.

She has a handful of Region 4 girls who will be back to the state meet who were the top finishers last year.

Randolph teammate Aubrey Milam is the second best returner from last year when she finished in fourth place. She was runner-up at Region 4 last week going 12:01.

Brooklyn Albert (Poth) was third with a time of 12:37. She was 12th last year and looks to crack the top 10 this year.

Katie De Gorostiza (Quitman) came out of a tough Region 2 race. She won with a time of 11:43 with Olivia Hughes (Mineola) in second at 11:48.

There are a couple of other girls out of Region 2 who are also very competitive. Carley Pitman (Eustace) was the third place finisher in 12:02, Aubrey Beam (Whitesboro) who was tenth at last year's state meet was fourth at Region 2 in 12:09, and Braleigh Wood (Quitman) was fifth with a time of 12:10.

Junior Brynleigh McFarlin (Keene) won the Region 3-3A title with a time of 12:01. McFarlin was sixth at last year's state meet.

Lily Alexander (East Bernard) was the Region 3 runner-up in 12:09 and it was a close race for third with Payton Conn (Franklin) and Samantha Fryer (East Bernard) both finishing in third with the exact same time of 12:14.20.

Finally, at Region 1, is the only other top ten returner from last year Kenli Atwood (Holliday) competed. Last year's eight place finisher won the Lubbock region with a time of 11:36.

Konnar McClendon (Canadian) was second with a time of 11:52 and Kate Hesse (Brownfield) was third in 12:14.

The 3A title is already Bendet's to lose as she is in the driver's seat once again. The top challenge or race for second should be between Milam, Atwood, McFarlin, McClendon, and Albert.

Chances To Win Team Title

The reigning champions and No. 1 ranked Holliday girls have been the best performing team this season based on the stats. They should be able to take another trophy back to Holliday.

Can East Bernard hold onto the second spot? They had he second best everage last weekend, but Eustace wasn't far off the pace. Their averages were similar and their spreads didn't vary by much either.

The Region 4 course was long, so we'll see if Poth can challenge for the podium or if Dalhart is still next in line.
